Who is Allah?
In Islam, Allah is simply the Arabic word for God. Muslims believe in one God who is the creator of the universe, all-powerful, all-knowing, and completely unique. The term Allah is used by Muslims around the world, as well as by Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews.
Understanding the Concept
Islam teaches that Allah is:
One: There is no division, partner, or equivalent.
Merciful and Compassionate: Attributes emphasised frequently in Islamic scripture.
Just and Wise: All actions are seen as purposeful and rooted in wisdom.
Beyond physical form: Allah is not represented in images or statues within Islam.
How Muslims Relate to Allah
For Muslims, belief in Allah shapes daily life. They view God as:
A source of guidance
A provider of comfort and hope
A constant presence, even when unseen
This relationship is expressed through worship, personal reflection, and moral conduct.
Shared Ground with Other Faiths
Islam recognises many of the same prophets found in Judaism and Christianity, including Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. Muslims understand Allah to be the same God worshipped in those traditions, though with differences in interpretation and belief.
