What is the Daily Prayers?

In Islam, practicing Muslims observe five daily prayers, known as Salah. These prayers are a core part of the faith and act as regular moments to pause, reflect, and reconnect throughout the day. While spiritual in purpose, they also create rhythm, mindfulness, and discipline in everyday life.

The Five Prayer

Fajr
Early morning before sunrise. It marks the start of the day with clarity and intention.

Dhuhr
Early afternoon. A mid-day reset that offers a break from work or study.

Asr
Late afternoon. A moment to refocus as the day begins to wind down.

Maghrib
Just after sunset. A short prayer that transitions from day to evening.

Isha
Night prayer. A time to slow down and end the day peacefully.

Each prayer involves a series of movements including standing, bowing, and prostrating, along with short recitations. The prayers typically take only a few minutes and can be performed alone or with others at a mosque. Prayer times change daily based on the position of the sun, so Muslims often use apps or local timetables to stay updated.

Across workplaces, schools, airports, and public spaces, Muslims will often find a quiet corner to pray. The practice is personal for each individual, and levels of observance vary, but the daily prayers remain a familiar and unifying tradition for Muslims worldwide.
